Technical Lecture 10 Oct 2018 – ISO 8217 Fuel Standard and the 2020 Global Sulphur Limit
Presented by Michael Banning, Technical Coordinator – Marine Fuel Specialties, Innospec
Recent issues with fuel supplied to ships, particularly in the US, have brought into question the validity of ISO 8217 and brought more uncertainty about the switch to compliant fuel post 2020.
This presentation aims to review ISO 8217 and show areas where it does protect the ship-owner and operator, along with some practicalities of receiving a problem fuel onboard – despite it being on spec for 8217. What preparations do ships need to make in the run up to 2020 and how does ISO 8217 today protect ships transitioning to a new unknown fuel in 2020.
